I Love Italy

April 7, 2010

Yesterday we ate at the most amazing cafe! For dinner all we had was a salad with tomatoes and mozarella cheese chunks! And a ton of olive oil, vinagrette oil and lots of spices! It was heavenly! Then we met the funniest Brittish girl names Astrid. She goes to the same school as us only she's not here on a study abroad.... She was skiing with her parents in Switzerland and then the day they were headed home they told her oh BTW you're going to Milan to study Italian for 3 weeks. Have fun! She was pretty funny and the most amazing accent. She was so funny and I pretty much want to be British.
Then after class we went shopping and wandered around the whole city again, because that's what you do here; you walk everywhere! But it was fun to finally be able to go into all the stores and buy things!
After all that walking we worked up a huge appetite. So we found this cute little pizza place and tried to order a piece of pizza. Then we decided that we wanted to go home and eat a half of a pizza. We ordered just half a pizza and you would think that it would be totally ok especially since the pizza guy spoke great English. Uhhhhh nope. we got an HUGE full size pizza that we proudly walked home with. Fresh and steamy!
After that amazing meal of cheese pizza we were all so stuffed and ready for bed but couldn't sleep. Once again stayed up WAY too late and was super tired in class today. Thankfully Italy believes in Coca Cola and I could drink one to stay awake in class.
Apparently people don't eat dinner here. They close their shops down from noon to 3 and then starting at 5 or 6 have this thing called Happy Hour. Everywhere. There are no restaurants we can just sit down and eat at. Basically you pay for your drink and then you have this mini all you can eat pasta, crackers and bacon covered brusel sprouts. So amazing! We ate this panini bread with chopped up tomatoes on top with olive oil and spices. Holy crap. Who in the world knew that olive oil and tomatoes could taste SO good!
School is great, Italy is great, everything is just so great here! Except that I miss my car and would really really really love to drive somewhere and not walk about 500 miles every day.
